Christians (YACs)
Who are we?
Young Active Christians – YACs - meet together on Sunday evenings. We are of secondary school age, usually S1 to S5, from both St Andrew's and St George's Church and Stockbridge Parish Church. We explore how our Christian faith affects our own lives and others around us. Our meetings are a lot of fun and food and games are a very important part of them!
What do we do?
As well as discussing issues affecting us and our Christian faith, we try to put that faith into practice. Over the years we have been involved in different projects:-
- Painting the Sunflower Garden at Simpson House
- Developing a link with a community youth group in Haiti, with the help of the charity Concern
- Fund raising for several charities in a variety of ways -a sponsored silence, a sponsored walk, a craft fair, even a sponsored beach clean!
Our annual service
We also devise and lead an annual service for both congregations. This is a chance for us to express through worship what we have learned in the year.
Fundraising and travel
Every year we hold a fund raising event (sometimes a ceilidh with a twist!) to help fund our annual trip over the Easter holidays. These trips are a great way to get to know each other better and learn more about our place in God’s world. We have been to Iona, Lindisfarne, Kerrera, Eigg, Colonsay and Knoydart so far. Next year (our 10th season) we are going to the island of Tiree
